AMD Phenom II x4 Hits 6.2 GHz

By: (more) | CPU, APU & Chipsets News | Posted: Dec 5, 2008 11:30 am

AMD has been in the news a lot lately with a ton of articles about the new Phenom II x4. I have seen everything from statements that it keeps up with current Core 2 Quads, to it beats the i7, I have even read that some Phenom II's might be called Athlon again.

One of the most exciting has been their announcement of a Phenom II x4 reaching a staggering 6+ GHz. The guys over at TechPowerUp have information on How AMD hit this record speed.

Read more and see some pictures here.

The picture reveals the clock speed at 6213.6 MHz, bus speed at 200 MHz, FSB multiplier at an unreal 31.0x and resulting HyperTransport link speed at 1002.2 MHz. This would mean that they may have dropped down the HT link multiplier (normally 200 x 10.0 for the Phenom II X4 940) to 5x. We already know from previous reports that the vCore was set around 1.90 Volts, and that a copper pot with liquid nitrogen was used to cool the chip.
