Intel fights EC probe

By: (more) | Posted: Nov 28, 2008 2:22 pm

Intel has had enough of the EC's bullying. In an interesting move they have filed a motion to have the whole EC initiated anti-trust probe dismissed.

Intel feels the EC is abusing its power with the latest probe. In another surprise move they are also asking to have the EC repay the cost's they have incurred fighting them.

The Sidney Morning Herald has more here.

Intel fight EC probe

Intel has accused the European Commission of abusing procedures in its probe of allegations the US chip giant sought to gain an unfair advantage over its main rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and asked that the charges be dropped.

European regulators filed fresh anti-trust charges against the world's largest computer chip-maker in July, accusing it of abusing its dominant position in the market to try to squeeze out AMD.

In reply, Intel asked that the Commission "annul the decisions" on the basis they "contain errors in law" and that the Commission pay the costs the US chip company has incurred to defend itself.
