New HD media player from WD hits the market

By: (more) | Posted: Nov 3, 2008 1:24 am

The lads at Engadget have spotted a new standalone media player from Western Digital on Best Buy, which hasn't yet been officially announced.

Dubbed the WD TV HD Media Player, it looks to be a highly compact unit with a very impressive feature-set. By plugging in a USB flash drive or HDD to it, you can be watching full HD (1080p) high definition video content as well as pictures and music on your TV with ease via its HDMI output.

Best Buy currently have it listed for sale at $99.99, a decent saving over building a full HTPC for users wanting nothing more than multimedia/HD playback and with less mucking around connecting it all up.
