ASUS designs a Radeon 'Dark Knight' card

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Oct 9, 2008 12:33 am

We learned not long ago that ASUS was planning a new "Dark Knight" series of graphics cards, first unveiling a GeForce 9800GTX+ variant. The oddity about it, however, was that unlike the name implies, there was absolutely nothing batty about it. And even though it uses an all-new cooler, the card remains with the stock clockspeeds.

Fast forward a couple of weeks and it looks like the company's about to add a second to the lineup, this time based around the Radeon HD 4870.

However, we once again find ourselves looking at a card that shows no resemblance anywhere to our caped crusader. This card appears to use the same cooler seen on the first DK card; a dual-slot heat-pipe happy design with open fan. And this card is also apparently left with stock clockspeeds of 750MHz on the core and 3600MHz on the 512MB of GDDR5 based memory.

Although not yet officially released by ASUS, apparently the card has surfaced in Europe with a price tag of 263 Euro. It's also been mentioned by the lads at Techconnect that a 1GB variant of this card is in the pipeline.
