Ben Gourlay | Celebrities & Entertainment | Aug 17, 2016 9:45 PM CDT

Last year we bought you the news that the CBS Network were pursuing a TV reboot for the classic 80's series 'MacGyver', and they've delivered. Well, they've delivered something, but I'm not sure it's MacGyver!

Starring Lucas Till in the role made famous by Richard Dean Anderson, the new series finds MacGyver as the creator of a "clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives".

The series is set to hit screens later this year.

Mass Effect Remastered could be announced soon

Anthony Garreffa | Gaming | Aug 17, 2016 9:32 PM CDT

Gamescom 2016 - After what has felt like years of Mass Effect not being remastered, it looks like EA could be rethinking that remastering some of its older games on new consoles and the PC, might actually be a good thing.

EA COO Peter Moore said a year ago that remastering games "feels like pushing stuff out because you've run out of ideas," and that his company didn't have the time for remastering games. Moore added: "We don't do that here. I don't think that's ever been in our culture". Fast forward a year and Gamescom 2016 is now here with EA Studios Executive Vice President, Patrick Soderlund saying that the Mass Effect trilogy might eventually be remastered.

Speaking with Game Informer, Soderlund said: "What's changed is that there is proof in the market that people want it, maybe more than there was when we spoke. There were some that did it before, but I think there is even more clear evidence that this is something that people really want. The honest answer is that we are absolutely actively looking at it. I can't announce anything today, but you can expect us most likely to follow our fellow partners in Activision and other companies that have done this successfully".

Support for DirectX 12 in Deus Ex delayed two weeks

Sean Ridgeley | Gaming | Aug 17, 2016 7:03 PM CDT

Though originally planned to include DirectX 12 support at launch, developer Nixxes Software says it won't be quite ready come August 23. Rather, you'll have to wait a couple weeks.

"We have some extra work and optimizations to do for DX12, and we need more time to ensure we deliver a compelling experience," it writes. "Our teams are working hard to complete the final push required here though, and we expect to release DX12 support on the week of September 5th!"

Mankind Divided isn't the only high profile recent game to launch without the benefits of the new API. As such, it's not unreasonable to venture the 'closer to the metal' design may be giving some programmers trouble and that it will take time before PC developers are fully accustomed.

Our future is without console generations says Microsoft

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Aug 17, 2016 6:34 PM CDT

Microsoft is betting pretty solidly on the end of not just the current console generation, but console generations in general.

Our future is without console generations says Microsoft

With its new 4K-ready "monster" Project Scorpio console, Microsoft hopes to usher in a new era of iterative hardware to the gaming world. Redmond has a vision where consoles are upgrade-able not unlike PCs, where the past, present, and future merge to form one continuous solid line of inter-compatibility.

"I think [this is the last console generation] ... For us, we think the future is without console generations, we think that the ability to build a library, a community, to be able to iterate with the hardware, we're making a pretty big bet on that with Project Scorpio. We're basically saying 'this isn't a new generation, everything you have continues forward and it works.' We think of this as a family of devices," Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg said in an interview with Engadget.
