Job J Stauffer reveals his experience working at Rockstar

Earlier during the week it was revealed through an interview with Vulture that Rockstar Studios' co-founder, Dan Houser made his development team work multiple 100-hour weeks throughout 2018 to complete Red Dead Redemption 2. Job J Stauffer, the co-founder of Orpheus Self-Care Entertainment spoke out about his experience of working at Rockstar Studios, he said "It's been nearly a decade since I parted from Rockstar, but I can assure you that during the GTA IV era, it was like working with a gun to your head 7 days a week."

Stauffer continued and regarded Dan Houser and Sam Houser, saying that employee's were required to "be here Saturday & Sunday too, just in case Sam or Dan come in, they want to see everyone working as hard as them." Stauffer didn't stop there either, he even went onto recount a time when he claims that he had the flu and needed a day off, but was then "put on notice" for work due to him being on Twitter while he was at home. Here is the full quote "There was an instance in 08 or 09 when I legitimately had THE FLU. Needed a day off. Went to Drx, got an Rx for Tamiflu, had an allergic reaction, tweeted a photo, then got put on notice for not coming in to work and 'fooling around on Twitter' instead. True story. F***** crazy."

SEGA won't over rely on remasters and remakes

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 16, 2018 7:32 PM CDT

Age-old companies like Capcom and SEGA have a wealth of IP to tap for remasters, remakes, and re-releases, but SEGA is cautious in depending too strongly on past titles.

SEGA won't over rely on remasters and remakes

A lot of SEGA's biggest games are a mix of retro and modern franchises like Sonic, Persona, Puyo Puyo, Yakuza, and Megami Tensei. With 800 million copies sold worldwide since 1991, Sonic is by far the company's biggest property and has seen lots of re-releases and games to date. SEGA will continue going down this path, the company said in its new annual report, but it won't rely heavily on classics to carry it to 2020.

"Under Road to 2020, SEGA is actively investing in intellectual properties (IP), including the creation of new IP and the revival of past IP. Revived IP are seeing some success," said SEGA chief content officer Toshihiro Nagoshi.

Hacked Switches can now use USB mass storage HDDs

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 16, 2018 6:28 PM CDT

Hackers massively expand the Switch's storage with USB hard drive support.

One of the more frustrating aspects of the Switch is lack of external storage support when docked. It's been more than a year since launch and Nintendo still hasn't made this an option (you can't even use USB sticks to transfer data) despite the dock being compatible with a host of devices. But you know the drill: if Nintendo won't do it, hackers will.

The hackers and modders at Team Xecuter just released a new SX OS beta update that adds in USB drive support. But you still have to hack your Switch of course, which is risky in all kinds of ways.

Battlefield V's new War Stories trailer shows WWII drama

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 16, 2018 5:36 PM CDT

Today EA and DICE revealed a new trailer for Battlefield V's new episodic WWII-centered campaign mode.

Battlefield V's new War Stories trailer shows WWII drama

Black Ops 4 may not have a singleplayer campaign, but War Stories is coming back with Battlefield V to show unique perspectives across WWII's widespread net of chaos. The stories themselves follow the same anthology format as Battlefield 1--every chapter has different characters in a separate location dealing with war in their own way--and takes players to bloody theaters of war from the North African deserts to the frosty Norwegian mountains.

Armed with DICE's explosively refined Frostbite engine, Battlefield V's War Stories campaign should be every bit as havoc-filled as the game's multiplayer modes. We'll see dynamic building demolition and vehicle destruction, massively improve physics, and some new additions like shooting while back-crawling and in prone stance.

No Man's Sky VR? Hello Games wants to know if you want it

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 16, 2018 4:27 PM CDT

Hello Games is apparently pondering the idea of No Man's Sky VR and a prototype could already be in development.

No Man's Sky VR? Hello Games wants to know if you want it

When I first played No Man's Sky in 2016 I thought two things: I want this in VR now, and this game isn't what I thought it'd be. As a game centered on being lost and a deep sense of cosmic loneliness rather than action-packed drama, No Man's Sky really hit a unique vein with gamers. Sure it had its moments of utter frustration and inane, boring exploration, but that's changed over two years thanks to Hello Games' steady updates.

No Man's Sky Next breathed new life into the game and sparked new interest in the community. Tons of new things were added and overhauled (some annoyingly so) and wayfarers came soaring back to explore the cosmos again. But there's one thing that could push these boundaries even further, VR support, and Hello Games wants to know if you want it. The short answer is that yes we definitely want it.

Sony fixes PSN message glitch

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Oct 16, 2018 3:22 PM CDT

Sony has fixed a frustrating glitch that was causing PlayStation 4 systems to crash.

Sony fixes PSN message glitch

Panic spread across the PlayStation Network two days ago when word of a nefarious message glitch was soft-bricking consoles. Soft-bricking temporarily knocks out a console's firmware or software and typically requires a number of remedies ranging from a hard reset, a database rebuild, or the dreaded factory reset which deletes all your data. I've had to deal with this four times now on my 2013 Xbox One and actually had to re-flash the hard drive a few times to get it up and running.

Now Sony has delivered official word on the issue (which has since been fixed) by saying that it the error didn't cause any sort of soft-bricking issues. The company's UK support page says the glitch, which was triggered by a foreign character that the PS4 couldn't understand, caused a crash loop.
