E3 2019 - During the Nintendo's E3 Direct we learned that the sequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be getting a sequel, but where is the games setting?

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel returns to Hyrule

According to an interview with Game Informer, Breath of the Wild producer, Eiji Aonuma spoke out about the games location and where players will be adventuring to this time round. Aonuma says that "One of the reasons we wanted to create a continuation was because I wanted to revisit that Hyrule again and use that world again, while incorporating new gameplay and new story."

Aonuma also touched on some other aspects of the game, such as confirming that Hidemaro Fujibayashi would be returning to the directional role for the sequel and that players won't need an expansion pack to play the game. Aonuma says "It will be a continuation, and it will be come in full form as it is. *laughs*" "

A new free speech platform has been announced by Dr. Jordan Peterson, an advocate for freedom of speech on social media platforms.

Jordan Peterson launches censorship free platform Thinkspot

Dr. Jordan Peterson is a tenure professor of psychology at the University of Toronto and author of 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos. Peterson is widely known for his stance against the censorship of freedom of speech, and has decided to announce his own social media platform that will allow for users to freely express themselves without the worry of being removed or banned from the platform.

The platform is called Thinkspot and is a subscription based "anti-censorship" platform that will encourage people to express themselves intellectually and engage in meaningful discourse. One of the ways Peterson has devised Thinkspot to naturally encourage this level of discourse is to have a minimum word count for posts. Posts will have to be more than 50 words, "If minimum comment length is 50 words, you're gonna have to put a little thought into it. Even if you're being a troll, you'll be a quasi-witty troll." Peterson said.

Age of Empires IV information will release 'later this year'

Jak Connor | Gaming | Jun 13, 2019 1:00 AM CDT

E3 2019 - There is no doubt that real-time strategy game fans are super excited about the release of Age of Empire II: Definitive Edition, but one question still remains in the back of their heads. Where is Age of Empires IV?

Age of Empires IV information will release 'later this year'

According to a recent interview with the Creative Director for the Age of Empires franchise, Adam Isgreen, it isn't long until we find out some more information about the coming title. Isgreen spoke to DualShockers at E3 2019 regarding AoE 4 and he said "The important thing is that even when we do [Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition] and when we are going to start talking about [Age of Empires] 4 later this year, which I am very excited about, we're not going to abandon the games."

So according to Isgreen new information for the mysterious Age of Empires IV will be released later this year. Perhaps we will see a gameplay trailer of some sort, or even a new trailer that isn't an announcement teaser. At the moment all we have to go off of for Age of Empires IV is the above teaser trailer, it reveals very minimal information about the title but I have still managed to throw together a 'Everything we know about Age of Empires IV' here.

CD Projekt RED won't fully embrace live service games

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 12, 2019 9:35 PM CDT

E3 2019 - As the industry shifts towards engagement, roadmaps, and live services with tons of microtransactions, CD Projekt RED's main focus will always be making big narrative-driven singleplayer games.

CD Projekt RED won't fully embrace live service games

Unlike EA or Activision-Blizzard, live services will only ever be additive to CD Projekt RED's business, not the core focus. The company does indeed plan to push farther into service games with new R&D initiatives and expansions for Gwent, it's monetized free-to-play card game, but not at the expense of narrative-driven titles. CDPR will never jeopardize singleplayer RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3.

"For expanding, definitely we're looking to that, but here and now it's big story games like Cyberpunk or Witcher," CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski said in a recent E3 Coliseum talk.

CD Projekt RED's new RPG may miss 2021 deadline

E3 2019 - CD Projekt RED's next unannounced RPG may miss its 2021 deadline due to Cyberpunk 2077's massive size and complexity.

CD Projekt RED's new RPG may miss 2021 deadline

Right now CD Projekt RED is working on two games due out by 2021: its incredible-looking new sci-fi shooter Cyberpunk 2077, and another unannounced AAA RPG. The new game, which we expect is based around the Witcher series, probably won't release in time because so many people are still working on Cyberpunk.

In a recent E3 Coliseum interview, CD Projekt RED co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwinski said over half of the company's developers are still working on Cyberpunk. Due to the sheer scope and time required for its biggest games, Iwinski says that simultaneously developing two major AAA titles at once is still a dream for the future. Devs may still have to move from project to project in a linear fashion.

Elden Ring is heavily based on Dark Souls

E3 2019 - Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirms FromSoft's new Elden Ring game is heavily based on Dark Souls.

Elden Ring is heavily based on Dark Souls

Elden Ring is a game FromSoftware has always wanted to make. It's been in development for years now--ever since the team wrapped up Dark Souls III's last Ringed City DLC--and represents a true return to high fantasy thanks in no small part to George R.R. Martin, who helped write and shape the game world. The new project is the biggest title FromSoftware has ever made. With a project set in a huge open-world environment, it's only natural Elden Ring will share similarities to FromSoft's previous games. Dark Souls is dead but Elden Ring will thrive in its forebear's ghastly shadow.

Hidetaka Miyazaki confirms Elden Ring will borrow heavily from Dark Souls, which was practically always a given. FromSoft has honed their third-person action combat to a fine point over decades of development and Elden Ring will embrace this skill-based battle system.

E3 2019 - Obsidian's new planet-hopping RPG shooter releases in October, just in time for the holiday season.

Obsidian's new RPG The Outer Worlds blasts off in October

Obsidian's fresh RPG The Outer Worlds is a lot like Fallout: New Vegas in space, and incorporates lots of classic Fallout themes and mechanics. As well it should, since the project is being developed jointly by Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. We didn't get a lot of new info at E3 2019, but Obsidian dropped a new trailer along with an October 25, 2019 release date.

A bit of new gameplay footage was released, showing some fluid FPS gunplay and an artistic style that blends No Man's Sky's colorful worlds with BioShock's style and Fallout: New Vegas mechanics. Speaking to IGN, Leonard Boyarsky did reveal some Outer Worlds tidbits like have the freedom to kill anyone in the entire game.

Alien: Isolation stalks Nintendo Switch in 2019

E3 2019 - Nintendo today confirmed one of the most terrifying and creepy horror games ever made is coming to the Switch.

Alien: Isolation stalks Nintendo Switch in 2019

The Switch is growing up, and very bloody and mature games like Alien: Isolation are showing up on the handheld-hybrid system. It's quite refreshing to see as Creative Assembly's macabre masterpiece deserves all the praise it can get, and the game will undoubtedly get a lot on its brand new home on the exceptionally lucrative platform.

Set for a launch sometime in 2019, the Switch port of Alien: Isolation is in good hands. It'll be developed by Feral Interactive, who ported the survival horror simulator onto Mac and Linux. We should see inventive use of the Switch's JoyCons accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to allow interactive corner-peeking and such.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's second episode should come sooner

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 12, 2019 4:30 PM CDT

E3 2019 - Square Enix once again re-clarifies Final Fantasy VII: Remake's multi-episode approach, saying it has a full plan and internal schedule set for future games.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's second episode should come sooner

Lots of wires have been crossed about the Final Fantasy VII: Remake. It's not just a game, but an episodic series that'll span multiple separate releases. Each episode will be the size of a full game, the publisher says. The two-disc version that launches in March 2020 is just the first episode and there are more on the way.

Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase previously said the team doesn't really know where the games will go or how long they'll take to develop, leading us to believe the wait is just beginning. Final Fantasy games are notorious for their nebulous, often-long dev cycles. Now Kitase says the team has a roadmap set in place for its future Final Fantasy VII: Remake games, and new episodes shouldn't take as long to make.

Avengers is a live service game with 4 player co-op

Derek Strickland | Gaming | Jun 12, 2019 4:07 PM CDT

E3 2019 - As we predicted long ago, Crystal Dynamics' big new Avengers game is a live service title that'll offer tons of content over time.

Avengers is a live service game with 4 player co-op

The new Avengers game sounds incredibly ambitious. Set in an all-original and gripping story that vilifies the Avengers as shamed heroes, gamers can play as Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, and Captain America--all with new designs and voices. Although it's a live game, the Avengers won't be always-online and caters to all kinds of players by including both singleplayer and co-op story content.

It's a third-person action game where up to four players can team up to take on huge battles across an ever-expanding world. An action-adventure game at heart, each Avenger will have their own RPG-esque skill trees that can be customized by players.
