ASUS P7P55D-E Premium

Buy Now and Price - $279.99

The P55 is an interesting product; you almost cannot go wrong with the motherboard you choose. It is the chipset and the CPU themselves that are the great buy here. However, we can narrow it down a little for you. If you are looking for a great all around board, the ASUS P7P55D-E Premium is one of the best we have tinkered with. It comes complete with SATA 3.0 (6GB/s) and USB 3.0.

This is on top of a host of other features and accessories. The on-the-fly overclocking, 48 Hybrid Phase (32+3) power and EPU that comes standard on this board make it hard not to want to pick up. When you combine this with an excellent internal design (tracing) and layout, you have an excellent choice for your Lynnfield love. For $279.99 at Newegg it is a good deal of money, but you do really get what you pay for here.

Regardless of the CPU you choose to drop in, the P7P55D-E Premium has options for you. If you are looking at the i7 870 then you have great high-end memory support to keep the eight virtual cores supplied with data. While the lower cost Core i5 750 can be pushed to upwards of 4GHz on air and remain stable. On top of that, you are ready for the next generation of HDDs, SSDs and USB peripherals. All of these great features go together to make the P7P55D-E Premium our recommended gift for the P55 chipset.

ASUS WL-330gE

Buy Now and Price - $41.99

This is nothing less than a Swiss Army Router. It has four modes that can be put to use. It not only includes a fully featured router, access point and wireless adapter, but can act as a hot spot to put you safely behind a firewall when connected to a public wireless network. Yes, you heard me correctly.

You can actually allow the WL-330gE to connect to the WiFi at your favorite cafe and then you (and your friends) can connect to the WL-330gE and sit behind the built in firewall complete with port forwarding, logs and even MAC filtering. This handy little device comes with everything you need to use it, all inside an easy to carry case. At $41.99 it is a steal and must have for anyone that likes to feel safe using their laptop on the go.

Zune HD

Buy Now and Price - $269.99

The upset product from Microsoft features the new TegraSoC (System on Chip) from NVIDIA under its cover. The Zune HD was completely redesigned and features an OLED display, HD radio Tuner and a sleek and sexy new look.

The new NVIDIA Tegra is a combination of processors each designed to handle a specific type of function. This allows it to reduce the amount of power needed to run and also gives the Zune HD the edge over other PMPs, even the Apple i-Pod Touch.

To use the Zune HD you will also need to install the Zune Desktop software. But even this is okay as you can buy a Zune Pass. With the Zune Pass you get unlimited music downloads from the Zune Store that you can sync with your Zune HD and 10 credits to purchase music for you to keep; all this for $14.95 per month.

Video and audio Playback on the Zune HD is exceptional and with the release of a handful of 3D-Games the Zune HD has shown that it deserves a place as our choice great gadget buy for 2009. You can find the 16GB flavor of the Zune HD for $198.00 (you can even have it customized if you buy it from Zuneoriginals.com). The 32GB flavor will cost you a little more at $296.99, but as both are cheaper than the next closest iPod Touch while handily outperforming them, we highly recommend the Zune HD.
