  • P4 Mobile 3.06GHz

    Hi
Just bought a HP zx5000 series laptop. CPU is P4 M 3.06MHz, but when I run several benchmarks the speed shown is 1.6GHz. It's even displayed in the Windows System Properties dialog box!
What he hell does this mean? Is the CPU clock 3.06GHz or 1.6?

    Any help would be apreciated.

    Thx in advance

      hi
just checked my power settings, no cpu clock speed control, nor anything like that.
Put it in desktop mode, removed the battery and ran Sandra Pro 2004. Still shows the same info:
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHZ
      Speed: 1.6GHz
      Type: Mobile

System Properties dialog box shows the same info as above.

      WTF?

      Thx

I wouldn't be suprised if HP underclocked the damn thing, but not by that much....

        Run CPU-Z from www.cpuid.org
It should tell you what you have, and what speed it's running at.

          Thanx guys
Finally found out what was going on. Intel Enhanced Speedstep is to blame. HP handed over the power management to Windows, and XP always cut the speed of this CPU to half unless you specificaly say you want the power scheme to be "Always On".

Benchamrk showed some decent results... at last.

(I did find it a bit odd that the cpu fan almos never worked and the laptop didn't heat at all!)

          Thanx again
