Quake 4 is one of the latest new games to be added to our benchmark suite. It is based off the popular Doom 3 engine and as a result uses many of the features seen in Doom. However, Quake 4 graphics are more intensive than Doom 3 and should put more strain on different parts of the system.

RADEON X550

While a 2 FPS doesn't look like much this corresponds to a 10% increase from the beginning of the year. We can see that ATI have been working on their OpenGL optimization.

RADEON X700

We can also see the OpenGL being optimized better over the past few months, this has always been a weakness for ATI but it seems they are well and truly on top of it now.

RADEON X850XT

At the lower resolutions we can clearly see how much better the last 6 months has been for OpenGL games.

With the earliest set giving us 48.4 and the latest 59.8 this is over a 20% increase in performance and also the difference between smooth game play and not so smooth game play.
