ATI Catalyst 5.9 Performance Analysis - Benchmarks - Test System Setup & 3DMark03

Yesterday ATI released their latest Catalyst driver for users of Radeon graphics cards. The new driver promises plenty of bug fixes but what about performance? Read on as we take a look at the new Catalyst 5.9 drivers compared against the pervious version to see if it's worth upgrading from a performance prospective. We'll be comparing the drivers on a Radeon X550, X700 and X850XT.

We've also changed some of the graphics cards - Radeon X550 256MB (replaces X300) and X850XT (replaces X800XT) and plug into our brand new ASUS A8N SLI Premium motherboard. We have also added Far Cry into the line up.

Okay, let's see what we get from the latest drivers from ATI.

By combining full DX8 and partial DX9 support with completely new tests and graphics over the previous version, 3DMark03 continues the legacy of being the industry standard 3D benchmark.

Please Note: Due to recent events with the 3DMark03 series, we are adding results purely for those who are still in favor of 3DMark03. These results should not be taken too seriously and are only added for interest sakes.

The X850XT and X550 both receive a small increase in performance in both resolutions.
