SUMMARY: Swinging away from the usual hardware, today we're looking at two of the latest and greatest gaming mice from Logitech and Razer. In the left corner we have the Logitech MX518 and in the right corner we have the Razer Diamondback Plasma Edition. Both offer impressive features such as on-the-fly sensitivity adjustments and 1600 DPI accuracy. Which is the best for your gaming rig? Read on and find out our thoughts!
There is no doubt that the Razer packaging is the more attractive out of the two and on a store shelf would look much better when compared to the MX518 design.
The front of the box like any product gives you all the important information about the product. In this case the extreme Scan Rate, the amount of buttons (7) along with the awards it has received and the fact that they are the official mouse sponsor of the World Cyber Games.
The back of the box gives us an extended look at the specifications, a quote from some of the reviews that are floating about along with a diagram pointing out seven of the key features on the product.
Apart from the mouse we get a driver CD that comes with the software so you can adjust sensitivity on-the-fly, program the buttons and more. We will have a closer look at it in just a moment.
- The Mouse
You can see the mouse in the packaging but it’s not until you pull it out of the box that you see just how fantastic it looks. The Plasma Limited Edition is a see through frame so that the blue plasma glow can be enjoyed by all.
You can clearly see the writing Razer Diamondback on the front of the mouse so you know exactly what you are using just in case you forget.
Swinging the mouse around to the front we have what is one of my favorite features on the Diamondback. The two big left and right mouse buttons, they feel so good and have a bit of spring to them and just generally feel fantastic. We can also see our mouse wheel that we need so much these days.
The side of the mouse gives us some more buttons which can be used for back and forward in web browser or next and previous weapon in your favorite first person shooter. As someone who has been use to these buttons being on the left only it was slightly awkward getting the fingers to utilize the left buttons well.
Like most high performance mice the use of a cable is always implemented to help prevent batteries going flat during a game or to make sure that the absolute maximum bandwidth is going to your PC without any delay which can be caused by wireless mice.
Flipping the mouse on it backs reveals its high precision optical sensor, its little feet that make it move so smooth around your desk and the bottom circuitry of the mouse.
