TRENDING NOW: Star Citizen creator: "I don't care about consoles"

nVidia's next big thing - GeForce 7800 GTX (Part 2 - Performance Comparisons) - Benchmarks - High Quality AA and AF

With the NDA being lifted just over 24 hours ago and our GeForce 7800 GTX sample reference cards rocking up just as we predicted, we are going to have a look into the second part of our article in regards to performance. We will have a quick look at our test system setup along with our general feelings on the new GPU.

High Quality AA and AF

All tests were run with 4 times FSAA and 8 times Antistrophic Filtering enabled with the screen resolution set to 1600 x 1200.

Normally we'd test these settings at 1024 x 768 but the GeForce 7800 GTX is no ordinary GPU and will give us an idea how it handles things when settings are turned up.

If you thought the 7800 GTX was shining when it was running at 1600 x 1200 when you start running it with AA and AF you don't know what to say but "WOW". The results we have here make the 6800GT look like an MX4000.

Half Life 2 again sees a huge jump in performance - we have gone from an unplayable average of 35FPS to an extremely playable 1600 x 1200 4xAA and 8xAF setup with one or two 7800 GTX cards.

Doom 3 as you would expect sees leaps and bounds in performance with it offering an average of 100FPS at these settings which is absolutely mind blowing.

Like we mentioned our BF2 results are all over the shop as you can see for yourself and shouldn't be taken seriously until nVidia and EA come up with some solution.
