SUMMARY: Today we see the launch of the first 64-bit processor from Intel in the flavor of the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition with EM64T which is clocked at 3.73GHz. In this article we cover the changes in the new CPU and how it performs against previous processors from Intel. Read on for your first taste of 64-bit from Intel.

For this review we have compared the P4 Extreme Edition 3.46GHz against the P4 Extreme Edition 64 3.73GHz - When we receive the Pentium 4 6xx we will update this review to add the benchmarks comparing the 560 to the 660.
SiSoft Sandra (System ANalyser, Diagnostic and Reporting Assistant) is a synthetic Windows benchmark that features different tests used to evaluate different PC subsystems.
Despite the increased clock speed of the EE64, it is somewhat slower in CPU tests and this is due to the Prescott architecture that the CPU runs, as Sandra isnt designed to fully test SSE3 technology so the results dont take this technology into consideration properly.
