Gigabyte 8GPXNP Duo Revisited - New BIOS, Better Performance - Benchmarks - Test System Setup and Sisoft Sandra

We first looked at Gigabyte's 8GPXNP Duo motherboard (which is based on Intel's 915 chipset for Pentium 4 processors) a little while back in our Intel I925 and I915 Mega Roundup, we found the performance with the original BIOS to be less than stellar but since then we have worked with Gigabyte and they have released a new BIOS for the motherboard designed to deliver better performance and overclocking options. Read on as we take a closer look at the new BIOS!

Test System Setup

Processor: Intel Pentium 560 (800MHz FSB) (Supplied by Spectrum Communications)

Memory: 2x 512MB DDR2-533 Micron

Hard Disk: 2x Maxtor Maxline III 250GB RAID (RAID 0)

Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce PCX5900 (Supplied by Gigabyte)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1

Drivers: nVidia Forceware 66.93 and DX9c

To evaluate the performance of the new BIOS from Gigabyte we re-tested the motherboard with the original BIOS and then re-tested with the new BIOS flashed onto the motherboard. To maintain accurate results, all of the settings (such as memory timings) were set the same with each BIOS.
