Intel Desktop Board D915GUXL (Reference)
- The Motherboard
The D915GUXL is Intel's entry level I915G based motherboard. Using a Micro-ATX format it allows integration into small workstation and home theatre m-ATX cases for small form factor PC's.
Placement for the connectors is setup in the standard Micro ATX format with the main power connector, IDE and FDD connectors behind the DIMM sockets and the 4 pin and Aux Molex connector between the Northbridge heatsink and the I/O plate.
The motherboard uses DDR-2 modules and is coloured with 2 Blue sockets for Channel A and 2 Black sockets for Channel B. Expansion layout is one PCI Express x16 slot, one PCI Express x1 slot and two PCI legacy slots.
The I915G chipset with it's built in GMA 900 DX9 graphics accelerator powers this motherboard. The GMA 900 shares the PCI Express x16 bus, so when no PEG card is inserted into the x16 slot, the GMA 900 is operational. The ICH6RW Southbridge is integrated into this series, however, it isn't enabled on this model, it is, however, on the full ATX variants - why it would appear on the Micro ATX is beyond us. Intel only cools the Northbridge with the same design heatsink that is on the D925XCV but none is present on the ICH6 Southbridge.
The Micro ATX series motherboards only supports 10/100 Ethernet with the Intel 82562EZ PCI Ethernet controller, no Gigabit on this version.
The overclocking options here are identical to the D925XCV with the same limited options; however, we weren't expecting any great leaps with Intel's own motherboards.
