Pentium 4 moves house - New Socket and Platform surfaces from Intel - Benchmarks - PCMark04

PCMark04 is a new multipurpose benchmark, suited for benchmarking all kinds of PCs, from laptops to workstations, as well as across multiple Windows operating systems. This easy-to-use benchmark makes professional strength benchmarking software available even to novice users. PCMark04 consists of a series of tests that represent common tasks in home and office programs.

Here we can see that the CPU has improved as the speed curve increases. Memory results are also better for the DDR-2 as this test doesn't worry too much about latencies, which are higher on DDR-2 than DDR.

The HDD results were the most surprising rise we have seen. This is quite possibly a much better Serial ATA controller built into the ICH6 and the new DMI link at 2.0GB/s allowing a much faster interconnect to the Northbridge for a faster HDD access experience.

Please Note: We intend on covering HDD performance much deeper in an upcoming article comparing ICH5 to ICH6.
