Introduction

Aesthetics. An aspect embraced by Apple, and neglected on the most part by the PC industry - the inferior factor when shopping for a new PC, new hardware, or even peripherals. In an age of technology where power and calculations within are the focus, aesthetics have been slowly pushed away and become far less subjective in regards to computer-related products. It is not common that one stumbles upon such a company, offering near automotive-quality finishes to your popular game consoles, laptops, and computer peripherals. Newly found, ColorWare is a unique combination of services which truly elevate the look and feel of consumer electronics - one’s Xbox, iPod, iMac-whatever it may be, to an all new level of uniqueness and reflection of personality.

Located in Winona, MN, ColorWare thrives as a business dedicated to coloring services and even pre-serviced products; they offer the consumer the choice between having them personally color your personal products (from their list of coloring candidates) or from purchasing products already serviced, in your desired color. Before you go mail ColorWare your water-cooling kit, CD case, or monitor, go to their website and read through the list of products they are capable of servicing.

Coloring a product without completing voiding a warrantee or causing potential damage to internal hardware can be quite difficult at times. Therefore, ColorWare has chosen an arsenal of products that generously comply with their needs; in both ease of disassembly, and construction. In their line are the following products: Apple’s iPod, Microsoft’s Xbox, Sony’s Playstation 2, Apple’s iMac, and corresponding console controllers.

We sent ColorWare our very own Xbox, iPod, S-type controller, and iPod dock. On their corporate website, they state their coloring service consumes a period of ten business days, excluding the time it takes to ship (there and back). ColorWare not only matched their promised deadline, but had the products shipped back on the tenth day. Throughout this article, we will evaluate ColorWare’s processes, techniques, quality of service, and plain style. Let’s take a look at what they have to offer.
