VIA K8T800 Performance Motherboard Shootout - Gigabyte, MSI and ABIT - Benchmarks - Quake III Arena

It's time for the battle of the big guns in the AMD Athlon 64 motherboard department. We've collected three high-end performance motherboards from Gigabyte, MSI and ABIT which are all based on VIA's K8T800 chipset and tossed them all in the ring to fight it to the death with our still shiny Athlon 64 3200+ processor. Let the fight begin ladies and gentleman!

Quake III Arena

Quake III Arena is a real-world OpenGL benchmark that we have been using here at TweakTown for quite a while now because it has proven itself to be one of the best gaming benchmarks around to compare a wide range of different products. Quake III is getting very old, but is still one of the best ways of testing video and PC systems for any instabilities and best performance.

Even after repeat tests, for some reason we see the ABIT lagging quite far behind. While the frames we see here are still huge it is unknown why the ABIT motherboard lags so far behind.

Moving to the higher resolution we see the ABIT come back with only very few frames separating all motherboards.
