AMD Athlon 64 Chipset Royal Rumble - December 2003 - Benchmarks - Jedi Knight 2

AMD has given us mainstream 64-bit processing and now we have a bunch of chipsets to join the joy ride. Today we pit all the newest chipsets from VIA, SIS, nVidia and ALI and find out who our best choice is for our Athlon 64 powered motherboard!

Jedi Knight II

 

Jedi Knight II, Jedi Outcast is an OpenGL game that many have been playing of late. It has greatly improved graphics over its predecessor and it fully supports advanced shaders, as well as very high texture resolutions and effects. There is one demo included in the multi-player section that is good for benchmarking use.

 

We used the VIA Arena Outpost map to stress the system.

 

- 640 X 480

 

 

nVidia again is coming last in a very noticeable difference. The VIA chipset isn't far form the front but the underdogs SIS and ALI seem to have it.

 

- 1280 X 1024

 

 

Finally we leave with the nForce3 chipset coming last, with the other three being fairly close.
