Five Way Performance PSU Roundup

Author: Mike Wright SUMMARY: It wasn't too terribly long ago that the power supply was just another component that had to be bought when it was time to build a new system. But times have changed with the advent of the newer more powerful computers hitting the market. Come join Mike "Darthtanion" Wright as he takes a look at five power supplies and gives some solid answers as to whether it might be just the right one for your own system.

Raidmax 500

Also from Raidmax is their 500 watt model shown above. Dressing itself out in solid black is always a good idea for nearly any colored case. It has the same solid look as its little brother and most of the same features.

With only a single toggle for power source, there is nothing to get in the way of the sleek look.

Rated at 500 watts of total output, the power ratings are broken down to 30A for the 3.3v rail, 50A for the 5v rail and 25A for the 12v rail. This will surely handle anything that you can throw at it, even some cold cathode lighting!

Connections are identical to the 400 watt version so I won’t repeat them here.

As on the little brother, the 500 watter from Raidmax includes an 80mm fan mounted on the back of the PSU to aid in cooling. And while not mentioned above, the addition of the fan grill on the fan is an excellent concept. With so many wires in the general vicinity of the power supply, you would just be asking for trouble if this option weren’t included.
