HD Tune is a Hard Disk utility which has the following functions:

Benchmark: measures the performance
Info: shows detailed information
Health: checks the health status by using SMART
Error Scan: scans the surface for errors
Temperature display

HD Tune Pro gives us accurate read, write and access time results and for the last couple of years has been gaining popularity amongst reviewers. It is now considered a must have application for storage device testing.

Our new SSD charts are SATA 6G heavy, but we kept the OCZ Vertex 2 on there for nostalgia. The Vertex 2 uses the same SandForce SF-1200 controller that is also in the Patriot Inferno. The Inferno was last year's flagship, but this year the Inferno costs around 245 Dollars for the 120GB. The Torqx 2 that we are looking at today costs less, but has more capacity.

In this test the Patriot Torqx 2 actually runs at nearly the same speed as the Vertex 2 120GB. Impressive.

In the write test across the drive things weren't so favorable for the Torqx 2. Here we hit an average write speed of 181MB/s, quite good for a mainstream drive, but more than 40MB/s slower than the SF-1200 drive.
