Battle of the SiS 648 Budgets - MSI vs. Gigabyte vs. ECS - Benchmarks - Direct3D

The Pentium 4 processor line has been with us for sometime now and has matured into quite the profitable making product for Intel after its rather shaky inception. Now we have the Top 3 chipset manufacturers creating chipset solutions for the processor. One which has begun to stand out in the crown is SiS with their solid 648 chipset. Today Cameron "Sov" Johnson presents us with a roundup of three budget motherboards based on this very chipset from MSI, Gigabyte and ECS!

Real-World Direct3D Benchmarks

 

Max Payne

 

Max Payne is a new generation DirectX 7/8 game. This game is based on Hardware T&L advancements as well as many other features of the Intel Pentium 4 and Athlon XP.

 

 

All three boards tie for first place in the first of our D3D tests.

 

Aquanox

 

Aquanox is the latest instalment of our benchmark software. This game is based heavily on DirectX 8 and 8.1 advancements and is designed to stress video cards to their ultimate limit, in all the best D3D benchmark to date.

 

 

Aquanox shows the performance gap between the three boards. ECS takes a clear first place with Gigabyte second and MSI third.

 

DroneZmark

 

DroneZmark is based on the popular DroneZ game engine. DroneZmark incorporates a looping demo and execution engine to test your system performance.

 

 

ECS takes the gold in the last of our benchmark suite for this session.
