Introduction

 

 

Today we've got two gaming oriented headsets in hand from SteelSeries and Razer. Both headsets are equipped with built-in microphone booms and offer in-line switches to control volume and mute functions for the microphone.

 

Comparing things of an auditory nature can always be tricky, so first I will give you the specs of both and later on I will give you the impressions of each through a series of tests based on my finely tuned aural senses...

 

Here are the specs for the SteelSeries 5H v2:

 

Frequency response: 16 to 28,000 Hz

 

Impedance: 40 Ohms

 

Cable length: 1m + 2m extension

 

Connector type: 3.5mm stereo jacks

 

Microphone frequency response: 75 to 16,000Hz

 

Pickup pattern: Uni-directional

 

Sensitivity: -38dB

 

Impedance: 2K Ohms

 

Here are the specs for the Razer Piranha:

 

Frequency response: 18 to 22,000 Hz

 

Impedance: 32 Ohms

 

Cable length: 3m

 

Connector type: 3.5mm stereo jacks

 

Microphone frequency response: 80 to 15,000Hz

 

Pickup pattern: Uni-directional

 

Sensitivity: -38dB

 

Impedance: 2K Ohms
